Calling all cooks! If you want to step up the flavor of almost every dish you whip up, we’ve got the answer – homegrown herbs. Trust us, once you have a constant supply of parsley, thyme, rosemary, and mint on hand, you’ll wonder how you ever survived in the kitchen without it.
No space for an indoor garden? No problem! All you need is a planter (a bowl will work, too) and a little bit of free space on one of your windowsills (preferably south or west facing). Plant seedlings in cool, moist soil and water (just a little!) each morning.
When you’re ready to use the herbs, cut them with a pair of clean kitchen scissors and stow away any that you don’t use in an herb saver. Fresh-cut herbs like basil are the perfect finishing touch to a plate of pasta. You can also top any dish with a mixture of minced herbs using a mill or make your own fresh pesto! For the latter, check out our easy recipe below:
Directions
Place all ingredients other than the olive oil in a food processor and blend. Gradually add in the olive oil and presto, you’ve got pesto!
