This weekend, much of the country will watch the Big Game while gathered around coffee tables that are brimming with cardboard takeout containers and munching off paper plates. While I do appreciate football just as much as the next guy, that’s just not The Style Hound’s style. May I suggest adding a hint of elegance to that game day feast by creating (and using) a truly beautiful table setting?

The key to a gorgeous tablescape is mixing & matching. All the elements of your table should work together and choosing a color theme is a great way to achieve this. Start with a classic linen tablecloth and napkins.  Because it is so versatile, white is my favorite color choice.  If you opt for color, just make sure it doesn’t steal the spotlight from your beautiful china!

Now it’s time to set the table. Choose a china pattern with a decorative border like this beautiful set by Vera Wang. Highlight the ornate boarders with a coordinating charger like these glamorous ones from Charter Club. One trade trick? Try mixing in pretty, vintage-inspired pieces for a chic yet relaxed look.

If you have very decorative china, keep your glassware simple and vice versa. For jaw-dropping stemware, I love the grace and heft of these Baccarat glasses. Now for the centerpiece: Whether it’s a beautiful vase of flowers, an arrangement of seasonal fruits or a collection of candlesticks – don’t be afraid to go big. If there was ever a right time and place to make a statement, this is it!
