Fall has arrived! The days are getting shorter, the evenings are growing colder and those Sunday afternoons you once spent dining al fresco with friends will soon be a distant memory. Food Republic’s fave way to usher in the new season? Enjoy a heart-warming cocktail!
As far as we’re concerned, nothing beats a piping hot, cozy cocktail. Think spirits with spices like cinnamon, nutmeg and pepper. And, don’t be afraid to use what nature’s got to offer! Head to your local farm stand to search out fresh ingredients that are at their peak. Here, a delicious recipe for Cranberry-Pear Cider, our top pick for your pint glass whether you’re chillin’ solo or hosting a huge fête!
Thoroughly wash pears before removing the skin and cores. Combine halved pears, cranberries and sugar in a small stock pot and fill with water (just enough to cover the pears). Wrap cinnamon sticks and cloves in a piece of cheesecloth, tie to close and add to the pot.
Bring to boil over high heat for about one hour uncovered, then reduce heat to a simmer and cover to cook for an additional 2 hours. Remove from heat and allow cider to cool slightly. Stir in 2 oz. brandy for every 8 oz. cider and serve warm!
