Thanksgiving is tomorrow and the time to prepare is running out! So, how to stay organized when you have SO.MUCH.TO.DO?! Well, try our 6 tips for turkey day pre-planning and tomorrow you’ll feel in control the entire time!
1. Brine the Turkey
Since your turkey will be the center of attention, this is the first task on your to-do list. Brining is one of the best ways to ensure that once the bird goes in the oven, it will stay moist and flavorful until the second it heads out to the table. Try to get your turkey in its brine about 10-16 hours before it goes in the oven, and in the event you’re using a frozen turkey, be sure it’s been completely defrosted before it goes in the brine!
2. Prep your veggies
Chop, slice and dice all of your vegetables the day before and store them in resealable containers or zip-top bags. This will eliminate a ton of busy work the morning of.
3. Wash your dinnerware/serveware
There’s nothing more annoying that finding a dirty fork or salad plate when you’re in the zone setting the table before the big meal. Browse through all of your plates, bowls and utensils so there are no surprises!
4. Make your desserts
When it comes to after dinner-treats and sweets, it’s always better to make them ahead...in fact, we strongly encourage it. Not only will it save you time and oven space on the big day, but most desserts typically need adequate cooling time, post-baking, anyway.
5. Create an “oven schedule”
With a turkey and countless sides
cooking away for the meal ahead, oven
space tends to become a really hot
commodity. Rather than stress about how
you’ll get everything cooked through or
properly heated, create an oven schedule
to outline and time when things pop in
the oven. That way everything will make
it to the table piping hot!
6. Set your alarm clock!
Because no cooking will get done unless you get out of bed, and because you may find yourself prepping and cleaning late into the night before, it’s always best practice to set your alarm so you don’t oversleep – and will still have time to watch the 86th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade! Trust us on this one!
