Recently, Macy’s Fashion Director, Nicole Fischelis traveled home to France to spend time with her family and, of course, check out the Giambattista Valli couture show. (Ahhh, Nicole – how do you do it?) Here, she reveals how to get that “je ne sais quoi” factor all French women are seemingly born with and how to make it through a sweltering Summer looking impossibly chic 24/7...

image2.jpgWhy do Americans love French style?

A Parisian woman makes her own choices: Coco Chanel once said, “la mode passe, le style reste” – “Fashion passes, style remains”

Chanel also said “A woman who doesn’t wear perfume has no future”. Do you agree?

Yes! It’s a way to love yourself and love others! It’s a courtesy!

Anything else a French woman cannot live without?

A lover!

How can I fake a chic Parisian look?

Follow your instincts – don't fake! You can never really go wrong with a little black dress, can you?

How do French women look so polished in the Summer?
NO sun. Cold showers and lots of water!

Hot Summer trends?

Buy something athletic, something ethnic, something artistic, something neon and, of course, something white!

What was your best Summer ever?

One Summer I spent in Bali... It was beautiful.

Pool or beach?

They are both fantastique!

Et voila: The true key to French style? Be yourself. And when in doubt, always turn to Coco Chanel for advice.

I shopped today in Macy's in Cross County, Yonkers, NY.  Perhaps the 'so-called' music being played in the store would attract young customers but as a senior I couldn't exit the store quick enough.
