Ever have one of those days at work when your job is just SO amazing you can’t believe you’re actually getting PAID to do what you do? Case in point: When I got the chance to interview THE one-and-only Nicole Richie! Here, she chats (avec moi!) about her new collection for Macy’s Impulse, her creative process and the one ugly item in her closet she just can not seem to toss...
TH: Let’s talk about the Nicole Richie for Impulse collection, what made you want to work with Macy’s?
NR: Macy’s is the most iconic American retailer and I’m very honored to have the opportunity to make my collection available on such a large scale across America. It’s also very exciting to be included in the company of Karl Lagerfeld, Alberta Ferretti & Giambattista Valli – all of whom I greatly admire.
TH: Do you have a favorite piece in the line?
NR: The studded black pants are a great item for Fall. I like that they are versatile, comfortable and the studs make them a standout piece that can be worn with almost anything.
TH: When you were designing, was there anyone in particular you were inspired by?
NR: For this collection, I designed around the prints and textures. In the prints, you’ll see bold peacock, kaleidoscope, feather and deco chevron designs. I mixed these elements with fabrics like matte satin, velvet and chiffon to help add sophistication.
TH: What’s your creative process like?
NR: For me, it all starts with music and the gathering of inspiration – which I’m doing constantly!
TH: Where do you picture girls wearing your collection?
NR: Anywhere. I wanted to design a collection for the fashion and budget conscious woman who is looking for an individual, sophisticated style by creating looks she can easily transition from day to night.
TH: Let’s talk about your own closet, what’s the ugliest thing in there?
NR: That would have to be my “mother and daughter” matching outfits. My mother used to make me wear them when I was younger. I can’t seem to be able to get rid of them. . .
TH: If you could give our readers one style tip, what would it be?
NR: Dress for yourself.
TH: Good advice. And one last thing… NYC or LA?
NR: LA. I love NY, but LA has and will always be my home.
There you have it! Nicole Richie is a true blue Cali girl at heart and you should go pick up a pair of her new studded black pants, pronto. Shop the entire Nicole Richie for Impulse collection, while supplies last, now!
