Think capes are just for superheroes? Think again! This season, they’re a top contender for style mavens who are looking to keep warm while looking cool. Here at Fashionista, where we’re just slightly obsessed with every such major trend, we decided to delve a little bit deeper into the cape and pick out our fave styles...

Surprise, surprise: Capes are not a new trend, per se. Actually, in the 1950’s, these sleeveless shells were de rigueur for most ladies out for a night on the town. Want to get in touch with the cape’s retro roots? Opt for a vintage-looking cape with a sweet, peter pan collar like this Jessica Simpson number. Wear it with a short, A-line dress and black opaque tights for old-school glamour.

If you’re more of a modern day gal, check out the sleek lines and structured silhouette of this Tahari jacket. (How chic is that bow at the neckline?) Pair it with slim, cropped, black pants and a silk blouse for an edgy ‘tude.

If you’re petite, you may worry that your figure will drown in a cape’s ample volume, but fear not. They key is length: The bottom hemline should hit just below hip level. And, you can always cinch it in at the waist with a coordinating belt. We love this one from Ellen Tracey, a classic with belt included!

You cannot make this up. During Christmas Macys fouled up my order. I wrote to the corporate order and I was sent a 50 dollar gift card. I made a purchase only to be sent the wrong pair of shoes.  I am so disgusted and wonder who works in the shipping office that is sending mispacked, broken items. Also mailing out the incorrect products. I am definitely going to write the corporate office again. I am sending them an image of the incorrect shoes so that they can see the level of incompentency that exists in Macys. Good to all you shoppers, I give up!
