Ice cubes aren’t just for keeping your drinks chilled! When combined with a little inventiveness, they’re also a quick way to kick up your coolness factor. To get you started, here are 5 slushy suggestions to add to your recipe repertoire:
1. SAY NO TO A WATERY CUP OF JOE.
Keep your brew chilled & flavorful by making your ice cubes out of the drink itself! Simply pour coffee and sweetener (optional) into an ice tray and wait for it to freeze. Add the frozen cubes to iced coffee mugs for an extra boost of cold caffeine that replenishes the liquid as it melts.
2. DRINK PRETTY.
Place edible flowers in an ice tray and freeze with water to spiff up any Summer drink. Just make sure the flowers were grown for consumption – our fave edible accouterment is nasturtium (pronounced nas-ter-shum)! Ask for it next time you make a visit to your local health food or gourmet shop – we bet you’ll love it, too!
3. SHAKE IT OUT.
Next time a cocktail recipe calls for a tablespoon of lemon juice make it easy on yourself by using frozen lemon juice cubes. Drop one into the shaker and you’re done — so long, tedious juicing.
4. GET REFRESHED.
Take leftover herbs (like mint) from an herb saver and add them to a half-filled ice cube tray. Pour more water on top and when frozen, add to lemonade, ice tea or cocktails.
5. SOUP IT UP.
If you’ve gone through the trouble of making homemade stock, do yourself a favor and freeze it in ice cube form. Next time you make soup just add a couple of your delish broth cubes to the pot for an effortless homemade taste.
