Prior to Fashion’s Night Out you submitted your burning beauty questions for makeup artist Bobbi Brown. There wasn’t time to cover everything in our interview, but I asked her several of your questions and here are the answers you’ve been waiting for!
tm: What defines your brand?
bb: The Bobbi Brown brand stands for natural beauty. My products are created to enhance your unique beauty, not cover it up. That’s why I started the Pretty Powerful Campaign.
tm: Do you have a perfect pinky-brown lipstick that will work on everyone? Is it Brown No. 4?
bb: Yes, it’s one of the shades from my very first collection of 10 lipsticks. Brown is a great color what works on everyone.
tm: What’s a makeup no-no for women over 40?
bb: When you’re over 40, not wearing concealer is a no-no. Everyone over 40 should be wearing concealer if nothing else.
tm: If you have bigger lips should you avoid wearing red lipstick?
bb: If you like wearing red lipstick, then I think you should wear it. As an alternative you could try a rosy color.
tm: What’s the best way to camouflage a double-chin or sagging skin without surgery?
bb: Apply bronzer lightly under your chin and on your neck to create a shadow. You can also play up your eyes with color to draw the focus upward.
tm: If you love to wear color on your eyes but have an allergy to mica, what would you recommend?
bb: Any of my matte shadows should work. My only eye shadows with mica are the shimmers and metallics.
tm: Do you have any red carpet tips?
bb: Smile, suck in your stomach, and pretend you look really, really good even if you don’t feel that way.
tm: We’re just entering fall and you’re already done with Spring 2012. Is it hard working so far in advance?
bb: Not at all. Actually, I have so many ideas that it’s hard to edit them. I love creating things, so I’m constantly trying to come up with new products that will really help people.
tm: What does it mean to you to work with a store like Macy’s?
bb: Macy’s is an amazing partner. I grew up in the Midwest too, and I looked at Macy’s as this huge, iconic New York Department Store. Having my business here is amazing. One day I want to have my own float in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade!
