Makeup artist Ricky Wilson is used to prepping the faces of celebrities and super models like Emmy Rossum, Sharon Stone, Leighton Meister, and Jessica Stam. Being the lucky girl that I am, Ricky took time out of his busy schedule to spend the afternoon with me at the Dior Counter in Macy’s Herald Square store. We dished on family, relocating to NYC, and of course I got the scoop on his favorite skincare and makeup.
I learned about so many amazing products that I had to split my post in two! Here are my skincare take-aways from my time with Ricky and I’ll bring you everything I loved about Dior makeup soon.
Capture Totale One Essential – Ricky uses this super serum on every one of his clients. I think it’s safe to say it’s his #1 skincare product. Applied first, it’s proven to boost the effectiveness of all other skincare products that follow while also making your skin look more luminous, smoother, and younger. And that’s all skincare, not just Dior skincare. While we were playing with different foundation formulas, Ricky also used just a touch with a foundation brush to quickly do a makeup fix.
Hydra Life Pro-Youth Hydrating Serum – My face is notoriously dry, so this may be my personal favorite skincare product. It’s an ultra-light serum that locks moisture in at the top level for improved hydration and a bit of a glow. Or in Ricky’s words, “It’s like a drink of water for your skin.”
Capture Totale Instant Eye Rescue – To reduce puffiness and refresh the eye area, makeup artists often use a trick of running the back side of a cold spoon right under the eye. Ricky and I agreed that with this product’s innovative applicator we can essentially retire our spoons. The palladium applicator automatically feels cool on the skin while delivering a luxurious eye crème that addresses the signs of aging, improves dark circles, and puffiness.
Diorskin Nude Crème Gel Compact – I usually shy away from foundation like this because I assume it’s going to be too heavy. This crème-gel formula completely surprised me! It’s very light and has technology that allows it to transform into a mineralized powder once applied to your skin. It leaves a beautifully, natural satin finish that doesn’t look or feel heavy at all.
SkinFlash Radiance Booster Pen – Another favorite, Ricky uses this instant brightener to counteract the look of dark circles. Rather than applying it alone or over concealer, he mixes the two for the perfect under eye fix. For me he mixed a bit of SkinFlash Radiance Booster with Diorskin Nude Hydrating Concealer and applied it under my eyes with a concealer brush.
Since we were on the topic of concealer, I asked for Ricky’s professional opinion of the order of application – concealer first, foundation second or vice versa. For him it’s always foundation first. And while I was trained with the opposite approach, he’s so amazingly talented that he may have changed my mind.
More to come…
