Sometimes a girl just needs to know more … That’s exactly why I’m going to be adding some product focus posts into the mix. For these posts I’ll be delving a little deeper into one specific product to try and get my questions answered and share some great information with you.

visionnaire_ad.jpg

First up is Lancôme’s latest skincare innovation, Visionnaire. I wanted to understand what a “skin corrector” really does, how it works, how it’s different from the amazingly successful Génifique products, and how I’m supposed to integrate it into my already lengthy skincare routine. If you’ve been asking these same questions, this is one post you won’t want to miss.

Last week I had the pleasure of sitting down with Lancôme’s Director of Skincare Marketing to get a better understanding of the technology behind Visionnaire and how it works. I’ve tried to capture everything I learned here, but if you have a question that wasn’t answered, please send it my way.

What is Visionnaire and what was the inspiration behind this product? Over a period of 12 years, Lancôme researchers studied how plants repair themselves when injured. They found that when a plant is damaged, it reacts by producing jasmonic acid, which sets off a chain reaction to repair the damage and prepares the plant to better defend itself in the future. Inspired by this natural repair mechanism, Lancôme’s quest was to create a new formula that would mimic the qualities of jasmonic acid while working in harmony with human skin. The result was Visionnaire.

Visionnaire is an advanced skin-correcting serum that’s supposed to re-create the look of more beautiful skin without damage or irritation. Its new breakthrough formula prompts skin to naturally correct the appearance of wrinkles, pores, and uneven texture. It feels very light and velvety to the touch, smells wonderful, and is the color of mother of pearl. As a product alone, it’s lovely, but let’s talk about the results.

What are the expected results? I was told that you’ll want to give Visionnaire time to work and should commit to using it for a minimum of four weeks to see and feel a true difference in your skin. In my personal experience, and this is rare, I could see a difference in my complexion overnight. I was very, very surprised and impressed. Here’s the information I got from Lancôme based on their product testing:

After a four-week use consumer evaluation of women aged 35 to 49 who had been tempted by a cosmetic procedure like hyaluronic acid, laser treatments, or chemical peels, one out of two opted to postpone it after seeing the transformation in their skin.*

*Results not equivalent to a cosmetic procedure.

How is Visionnaire different from Génifique? Here’s how it was explained to me. Génifique is about “seeing” a difference and Visionnaire is about “feeling” a difference in your skin. In essence, Génifique is a product focused on improving overall radiance, or achieving skin that “looks lit from within.”

Visionnaire is for someone who wants to experience a change in their skin’s appearance and texture. It helps skin to boost its natural cell creation, so you can actually feel a difference in your skin after four weeks of use, and it’s specifically targeted at correcting the appearance of wrinkles, pores, and uneven skin tone or texture.

Can you use Visionnaire and Génifique together? Absolutely. If you’re going to use both products twice daily, apply them in this order:

1st - Génifique

2nd - Visionnaire

If you want to alternate your use between day and night, apply:

AM – Génifique

PM – Visionnaire

As an FYI, I use two pumps on my face and under my eyes and another two pumps on my neck and décolletage. Follow the application of these serums with your other treatment products and then your moisturizer.

How does Visionnaire compare to a laser treatment or chemical peel? Truthfully, no skincare product can deliver results equivalent to a cosmetic procedure. It’s like comparing apples and oranges. To me it’s important that everyone understands that difference. Much like jasmonic acid is produced when a plant is damaged in some way, more invasive cosmetic procedures like laser treatments and chemical peels essentially damage portions of the skin to initiate a healing process, stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, and reverse the effects of aging. Visionnaire helps recreate the look of beautiful skin and correct the appearance of wrinkles, pores, and skin texture without damage or irritation. To me, that’s quite impressive!

I’ve shared all I know about Visionnaire and based on my personal results, I’m sold. Give it a try and let me know what you think.

Hi there, im 24 and tend to get the odd few spots here and there regularly. Is it ok to use this cream at such a young age as mine too?
by Tonya_Mann on ‎09-19-2011 12:49 PM

Laaiqa - Before anything else, I would say that you need to be using sunscreen every day. If you're already doing that, I think it's fine for you to use a product like Visionnaire. I'm sure some people would disagree with me, but I'm all about prevention. Why wait to start using an anti-aging product until you already see lines, wrinkles, etc? That said, if you're only concerned with a bit of discoloration, you could also try something like a brightening spot treatment.

by Mature(anon) on ‎09-22-2011 01:02 AM

Why stop at 49?  What about a more mature woman like me who just turned 60 and still hanging in there?!  Or should I follow the Jane Fonda route?

by Melissa Smith(anon) on ‎09-30-2011 11:19 AM
Is visionnaire safe to use if you're pregnant?
by Tonya_Mann on ‎10-03-2011 11:38 AM

Mature - In no way do I think you should stop caring for your skin at 49. I personally think that you should start caring for your skin early to prevent the signs of premature aging and continue an anti-aging skincare routine indefinitely! It's really not about a number for me. It's more about being happy with your appearance and having healthy, beautiful skin at every age. There are amazing skincare products available to help prevent, correct and target the signs of aging, but they will not deliver the same results as cosmetic procedures.

by Tonya_Mann on ‎10-03-2011 11:39 AM

Melissa Smith - Great question! Let me see what I can find out and I'll get back to you.

by Andrea Miles(anon) on ‎10-10-2011 01:30 AM

Hi!

I just had to comment on the pregnancy question, since I was actually wondering about the same thing. I asked the question on Lancômes website, and this is what they told me "Visionnaire is absolutely safe to use while pregnant. All of Lancômes products are, unless something else is stated on the package. Jasmonic acid is very mild and well tolerated, although pregnancy hormones may cause the skin to react differently than it otherwise would".

In other words, there should be nothing to worry about!

by Tonya_Mann on ‎10-10-2011 01:33 PM

Hey, thanks Andrea! I actually spoke with someone at Lancome as well. However, they didn't say definitively that it was safe for use while pregnant. While I'm sure the information you received is probably accurate, they recommended that you discuss the use of any products with your physician. Obviously everyone has the same goal in mind - the health of you and your little one. :smileywink: Because everyone has unique health and lifestyle differences, I would run it past your physician just to be double sure. BTW, congrats to both of you! You definitely need some mommy pampering and beauty rest pre-baby.

thanks for the info re using genifique and visionnaire. I just got a sample of each with no directions and there's none that I could find on their website.

by Alice(anon) on ‎01-25-2012 09:27 PM

Hi. I would like to know if I can use visionnaire followed by my moisturize cream and ending with a sun protector.

Thanks

by Tonya_Mann on ‎01-30-2012 01:57 PM

Alice - Your comment makes me so, so happy ... What you've said is perfect! It's ideal to apply your serum/Visionnaire, followed by a moisturizer, and then finish with sun protection. If you want to combine your steps, you can look for a day moisturizer that includes broad spectrum sun protection. You get an A+ in my book.

by Anxious(anon) on ‎02-21-2012 08:47 AM

I too, received samples of Genifique and Visionnaire --but how do i apply them to skin and how much should i apply.

by Tonya_Mann on ‎02-21-2012 03:21 PM

Hi Anxious. I'm going to speak in general terms here because I don't know exactly what type of samples you have, i.e. a mini of the product, a foil sample, etc. I would probably use about half of a foil sample for one application. Warm the product in the your hands and then press it onto your skin, being careful around the eye area.

If you'd like to use them together, apply the Genifique first, followed by Visionnaire. Personally, I'd give the Genefique a bit of time, like 2-5 minutes, before applying Visionnaire. Otherwise, if you're new to both products, it might be best to start your sampling by using Genefique in the morning and then using Visionnaire at night. Day and night, you'll want to be sure to apply a moisturizer as the last  step. Does that help?

I'm a 30 y'o male. This product has my attention due to flashy ads, etc. Can men use this product? Or is it more for women to wear under make up? I wouldn't mind smoother younger looking skin.... Should I give it a go?

by Tonya_Mann on ‎05-17-2012 12:20 PM

@ausguy so very sorry for not responding sooner. Not sure how I missed this comment. In my opinion, there's no reason you can't try Visionnaire. The only thing I would say is that you may not experience exactly the same results for two reasons - 1) the product was tested on women, so the results/claims are based on that testing. 2) men's skin is about 4x thicker than a women's skin, so it may take a little longer for you to see results. That said, I still think it's worth a try. I'd love to know if you try it and what you think. And if you'd prefer a men's anti-aging product, just say the word and I'll give you some recommendations. Cheers.

by Karan(anon) on ‎06-29-2012 06:39 PM

Hi Tonya. I'm a 27 yr old male. I'm curious to know your recommendations on men's anti-aging products before I join the bandwagon and splash a few hundred bucks on buying random stuff that I can't even use regulary.

by ILuvJesus(anon) on ‎07-21-2012 02:16 PM

I am 53 yrs and got a sample of Visionnaire and Genifique.  I used the sample for less than 2 weeks and it was like a miracle had taken place with my wrinkles.  I had a sort of deep wrinkle just above my lip (into my lip) and I promise,  the wrinkle is filled in, dissappeared totally!!!  I was so self conscious about it and could not afford to go to the plastic surgeon for collagen injections.  Visionnaire is a miracle!!!!

by munichmom(anon) on ‎08-16-2012 05:40 AM

I am so happy to have found your blog.  Same story here - got the Vissionaire with no directions and wondered how to use.  The sample is small, and has a stylus of sorts, so i suspect from what I read, I simply spread it on.  Thanks again!

by Anna(anon) on ‎10-26-2012 09:10 PM

I'm 35, can u use bienfait cream with genifique and visionnaire together ?and also I have absolue eye cream can I used them all together ? I'm in love with Lancôme product.i recently using Lancôme and I'm happy with it.My skin feels younger and smooth. even it's pricey ... I totally buy it. It's worth to buy:smileyhappy:

by Tonya_Mann on ‎11-27-2012 09:32 AM

@Karan @munichmom @Anna just seeing all of your comments! I'm so glad you're finding the blog helpful & will get back to you with answers on these questions today. Cheers

by Tonya_Mann on ‎11-27-2012 12:46 PM

@Karan you're up first. My thoughts on anti-aging skincare for men ... At 27, I don’t think you have to invest in a lot of anti-aging products. Instead, focus on establishing a daily skincare routine and prevent premature aging by wearing a moisturizer with SPF every day. That’s the single best piece of advice I can offer.

That said, men have different skin than women, so for the most part I would recommend sticking to a men’s skincare line like Jack Black or Lab Series. With a serum like Visionnaire, it’s fine for a man to use but unlikely that it’s been tested on men’s skin, so I’m not sure that you would experience the same results. I hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any more questions or need help with picking a skincare line.

by Tonya_Mann on ‎11-27-2012 12:54 PM

@munichmom I'm so glad you found the blog helpful! I'm not exactly sure about the stylus applicator. I would recommend either using it to dab product on your face and then pressing into the skin with your hands or applying droplets in the palm or your hand and then applying the product to your skin.

by Tonya_Mann on ‎11-27-2012 01:02 PM

@Anna you can absolutely use Bienfait Cream and Absolue Eye Cream with Genefique and Visionnaire! In fact, serums and moisturizer go hand-in-hand. You should always apply a serum to your skin and then finish with moisturizer. Glad to hear that Lancome is working so well for you! It helps so much when you feel good about how your skin looks.

by Kelley(anon) on ‎03-12-2013 11:16 AM

What moisturizer would you recommend? I have seen others stating to use Lancôme products only when using Visionnaire. I typically use Philosophy Hope in a Jar. Is there a recommendation for a moisturizer that you have that will help with this product?

by Tonya_Mann on ‎03-12-2013 02:32 PM

@Kelley I wouldn't say you have to change your moisturizer in order to benefit from adding Lancome Visionnaire to your skincare regimen. The good part about using products from one brand is that you know they've been developed to work together, but it's not an absolute must. If you're happy with Hope in a Jar, stick with it. If you want to try a Lancome Moisturizer, I like Renergie Cream or Absolue Precious Cells, but I also have dry skin.

by dianna thornton(anon) on ‎03-13-2013 09:21 AM

hi im dianna   im considering buying the loncome moistirizer with spf 30.  i am all about spf products  i am 46 ans have 30 yr old skin with a few fine lines.  if i apply spf 30 moisturizer will i counter act it with th spf 15 foundation?

by Tonya_Mann on ‎03-13-2013 02:57 PM

@dianna Good for you on the SPF! Wearing sun protection every day is one of the best ways to keep your skin looking youthful.

In regard to the SPF 30 moisturizer, I'm not sure I fully understand your question. Are you concerned because the foundation has a lower SPF? If so, it won't make the SPF 30 moisturizer any less effective. It's absolutely fine to wear more than one product that contains sun protection. If that doesn't give you the information you're looking for, please let me know. Thanks!

by Gaily-Anne(anon) on ‎04-08-2013 08:24 PM

I guess I am the "odd girl out."  I've been using visionnaire for almost 2 months now and have not seen any change.  Maybe it's because I am 60. My fine lines are just as visible and the deep frown lines are just as deep. I've tried Estée Lauder Perfectionist as well. Neither of these did what they claimed.  Maybe I'll try something less expensive or maybe I am expecting something that will not happen for someone my age.  And I do use them as directed, under a moisturizer, like absolue premium.

by 31wen(anon) on ‎05-04-2013 09:13 PM

Hi Tonya_Mann,

Just found your site and found it very -very interesting, I read great feedback.

Fist of all I'm a male 40 y o age. Like to answer my experience after using the Visionnaire on my male skin. I've been using Visionnaire for about a month and yes I have seen results. I 've asked my family and a few close friends to honestly observe my face for a month and give me their honest feedback..I've been told by all that they have seen an improvement. My skin is more bright and a few open pores I had have been minimized . Under the eye area  a few lines of dehydration are all fading away. When I look into the mirror I to can see results. So, yes men can definetly apply the visionnaire. I apply it morning and evening, after cleansing and toning and before the face cream, and seen results. After so many years my face feels ''relaxed and light''.It's the BEST product around. Thanks ,hope this was helpful, take care.
