Last week I attended an event at Godiva to celebrate the launch of Carol's Daughter new Chocolat Smoothing Collection. Designed to physically rebuild and smooth hair with a shampoo, conditioner, and blow dry cream, Chocolat "sounded" like it might be the answer to the third part of my big hair dilemma - taming the frizz. Although I was excited, I had several questions. Was it going to smell like chocolate? Was it created for all hair types? Would it weigh my hair down with a heavy coating? Would there be Godiva Chocolates at the event?!?! Luckily Lisa Price, the founder of Carol's Daughter, was there (sporting smooth, sleek locks) and gave us the dish on her latest creation. And of course there were chocolates galore!

chocolat4.JPGAs the crowd enjoyed everything from carrot cake truffles to bacon-stuffed figs dipped in chocolate, Lisa Price shared the inspiration behind the Chocolat Smoothing Collection. She said that as she sipped a cup of hot chocolate she started to put the the two thoughts together - smooth and chocolate. This led to researching whether Cacao actually had smoothing properties and ultimately was the catalyst for product development.

She also addressed my concern about the fragrance, saying, "Don't worry, you won't smell like a chocolate milk shake when you use this." Rather than straight chocolate, the scent blends ylang ylang, jasmine, iris, vanilla, and cacao. I really, really like it. It's that warm, rich smell that I personally love in a candle but have never before experienced in a hair product. It's nice!

The sulfate-free products are also created for all hair types. Thank you Carol's Daughter! Rather than coating the hair, as most smoothing products do, this trio uses Cacao Extract and Keravis, a powerful plant protein to rebuild the hair to be physically smoother. The Smoothing Blow Dry Cream also includes Carol's Daughter's thermal protection, which shields hair from heat-styling damage.

As for my personal experience ... Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words! You still have to put in the work of blowing your hair out straight and following with a flat iron, but after using the shampoo, conditioner, and blow dry cream, my hair looked and felt pretty incredible. It's shiny, smooth, and straight - FINALLY! And just as they promised, the smooth finish lasted. I didn't even have to touch a flat iron or use any additional products for three days! That's pretty amazing.

The only thing I would recommend is washing your hair twice if you like to have a good lather, like me. I know many sulfate-free shampoos recommend washing twice, once to remove any buildup and a second time to clean your hair. Bottom line, I'm thrilled and have yet another reason to love chocolate or Chocolat. I used the collection again this morning and I'm just as happy as day one. My hair dramas are finally figured out, just in time for snow and hat head. Yippee!

The Chocolat Smoothing Collection is available in stores and will be online later this week. I'll add a link to the products as soon as possible.
